Chimpanzees and Gorillas
Imagine walking slowly and quietly through the
Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi when your guide beckons you forward and there,
just in front of you, is one of the most endangered species on earth, the
magnificent Mountain Gorilla.
This is probably the most exciting safari
experience you will ever have. The forest is thick, your quarry scarce, you are
on foot and suddenly you are surrounded by the gorillas who seem as curious
about you as you are about them.
It is estimated that only 650 of these
magnificent cousins of ours still exist and they are all in the mountainous
region of Uganda, and the surrounding countries of Rwanda and the Congo. Our
itinerary will take you to the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi in the beautiful
country of Uganda, the most comfortable and reliable destination for viewing
these magnificent creatures. Chimpanzees in the wild are on the brink of
extinction. At the turn of the last century, chimpanzees were living in 25
countries across West and Central Africa numbering around one million. Today
their total number has dwindled to less than 200,000, with significant
populations found in only four countries.
In the Jane Goodall Institute's Sanctuary program
orphan chimpanzees live together in a natural environment in the hands of
experienced and loving caregivers. They receive proper nutrition and learn to
live in social groups that are necessary to their survival and essential for
their development and well-being.
Your stay on Ngamba gives you the opportunity to
see these remarkable creatures and to support the conservations efforts.
You will enjoy watching day time chimpanzee
feedings from the visitors platform along the edge of the sanctuary fence, plus
the bedtime and early morning feeding routines at the overnight chimpanzee
holding facility. You also have unlimited use of the other island facilities
and activities such as bird-watching, fishing, kayaking, or simply relaxing and
enjoying your surroundings.
A highlight of your stay is the option of a
guided chimpanzee forest walk with some of the young chimps into the forest
area with a CSWCT staff member.
