A Photographers Dream

Tantalizing Tanzania

The Houston Museum of Natural Science Presents:
Tantalizing Tanzania - The Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, Tarangire and Sinya

A classic, 11 day / 10 night, photographic and cultural safari with Dr. Dan Brooks, Curator of Vertebrate Zoology

Imagine, if you can, a vacation that takes you to the most famous game viewing destinations in the world; the sensational Serengeti, the incomparable Ngorongoro Crater, the Tarangire National Park and, introduces you to Sinya Camp at the western base of Mount Kilimanjaro - fantastic!

And, in addition to the wonderful wildlife you will also have extraordinary cultural experiences with the Maasai in Sinya and the Bushmen at Lake Eyasi.

  • 1 night at "Willy's House" in Arusha on a half board basis.
  • 2 nights Sinya Camp on a fully inclusive basis. This permanent tented camp is located immediately beneath Mount Kilimanjaro on its western side and has just 10 luxurious en suite "tents" spaced extravagant distances apart for the ultimate privacy. We adore this camp and it has gone straight into our "Top 5 Camps in all of Africa"
  • 2 nights Ngorongoro Farm House on a fully inclusive basis. This beautiful property is located on a hillside in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Mountain.
  • 2 nights Ngorongoro Serena Lodge on a fully inclusive basis. Perched on the edge of the crater, this beautiful lodge affords panoramic views of the crater floor. The interior decor recalls the theme of the prehistoric past with decorative wall paintings. The food served in the dinning room is considered the best at the Crater. Most guest rooms have private terraces with views of the crater floor, where countless animals make their home, and all are en suite.
  • 3 nights in the Serengeti National Park on a fully inclusive basis. You will love the HEMINGWAY style, full service tented safari, with its large canvas tents, all with large beds, en suite showers and, uniquely, flushing toilets. The camp is pitched before your arrival when your Butler will greet you with juice and refreshing towels. This private camp allows you to escape the crowds so that it sometimes feels as though you have the whole of the Serengeti as your private playground.

HMNS & Tantalizing Tanzania

Could anything be better than the magnificence of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the beauty of the Tarangire, the uniqueness of the Ngorongoro Crater and to cap it all, the unequalled Serengeti?

Your safari begins with the short drive from Arusha to Sinya Camp. This beautifully isolated and luxurious camp is completely off the beaten track, immediately beneath Kilimanjaro, in an exclusive concession. You will not find Sinya in any guide book or travel brochure - it is truly a unique experience.

You will love the game drives, guided walks and the very best Maasai cultural experience we have ever known. The Maasai in the Sinya boma are so protected from tourists that they are as interested and as excited at seeing us as we are in seeing them.

"Sinya was extraordinary and we wished we had planned more time there" R.H. Houston

From Sinya you drive West past Lake Manyara and steeply up the rift valley to the Ngorongoro Highlands and the beautiful Ngorongoro Farm where you spend one night.

It is a short drive the next morning to Lake Eyasi, the home of the Bushmen. Here you will have the opportunity to join their hunt, and a cultural visit to their boma. In the afternoon you may take a walking safari before returning to the Ngorongoro Farm.

The next morning you make the short drive to one of the most exciting destinations in all Africa - The Ngorongoro Crater. This vast volcanic crater is hidden from view until, when you reach its rim, it magically appears, 2,000 feet below you. Nearly 100 sq. miles in area the Crater contains an impressive variety of wildlife including black mane lions, the highly endangered black rhino, elephants, hippo, and herds of gnu and zebra.

After two nights at the Crater you continue West to the Serengeti National Park and a stop at Olduvai Gorge, the famous archaeological site where the Leakey's discovered remains of Australopithecus, Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus, bringing crucial understanding to the study of the evolution of the human species.

The Serengeti is home to the Great Migration where more than a million wildebeest and zebra follow the rains in search of new grass, followed, inevitably, by the predators. It really is a most amazing spectacle and you will spend three nights here with daily game drives and the Luxury Mobile Tented camp.

All too soon your safari is coming to an end and you return to Arusha and your return flight home.
