The Classic Hemmingway style camp provides you with the creature comforts of life whilst allowing you to experience the wild beauty of the African bush.

Macatoo Camp features large twin bedded tents, each with their own en-suite shower and bathroom. Each tent is secluded with a spacious verandah and armchairs overlooking the flood plain dotted with palm trees. Centrally there is a large furnished mess tent. "Riders can now experience the ultimate African horse riding adventure safari. This horse safari rides out daily from Macatoo camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana. On eager horses you will explore the vast wilderness of the Delta - making it the riding holiday of your lifetime."

You may choose from thirty horses ranging from full thoroughbreds, Namibian Hanovarian thoroughbreds, Arabs, Anglo Arabs and various other crossbred Kalahari bush horses. They range from fourteen hands high to 16.2 hands high and are also very varied in type and temperament.

"There is no magic on earth to beat it. The riding safari with African HorseBack Safaris, organized by Sarah-Jane Gullick in the Okavango Delta was a life's dream. From childhood I had yearned to go and see the game of Africa, but tales of a dozen Land Rovers surrounding a few lions had started to put me off. However, this safari was so natural and perfect. Seeing everything from horseback made me feel part of the environment and in touch with it. For ten days in Botswana I was able to share wild Africa with its animals. It was an extraordinary time. I learned more about wildlife than I have in the past 10 years, I saw things I couldn't believe and had more fun than you can possibly imagine."

Information:

Macatoo, the Horseback Safari Camp, is situated on the western side of the Okavango Delta, Botswana. The riding terrain from camp is scenically varied in all directions.

Number of Riders: The camp accommodates 12 guests - riding groups are typically 6-8 guests.

Rider's Weight Limit: Strictly 210 lbs or less. Over this, you will need to enquire, but only if you are an advanced rider.

Riding Ability: The safaris are for riders. We spend 4 to 6 hours a day in the saddle. You will need to feel competent about keeping up with the group, capable of riding at all paces; rising to the trot and controlling your horse at the canter. You may be required to gallop out of trouble, so we can not take beginners. It will be at the discretion of the company whether you will be permitted to ride.

Tack: There are good quality English and Western style trail saddles, each with their own water bottle.

Recommended Stay: To get the most from your visit, you should consider a 7 or 10 night safari, which includes riding out to a second camp. There is a minimum stay of 3 or 4 nights depending on your arrival day.
