Londolozi Private Game Reserve

Londolozi Private Game Reserve is an unashamedly exclusive and luxurious safari destination covering 14 000 hectares (34 580 acres) in the heart of the game-rich 56 000 hectare Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Londolozi is a Zulu word meaning "protector of all living things" - an ambitious conservation ethic that Londolozi embraces in its sensitivity to the natural world. This is why the Londolozi Model is the blueprint of CC Africa's founding principles: "Care of the land, care of the wildlife and care of the people".

The story of Londolozi began in the late 1920s at, of all places, a tennis party. On a piece of virgin bushveld on the clear Sand River, the first camfire was lit amid the roar of lions. This is where Londolozi stands today, one of the most sought-after ecotourism destinations in the world.

The reserve is internationally recognised for its far-sighted and progressive management of land and wildlife rehabilitation as well as productive community involvement. Londolozi is regarded as the flagship of CC Africa's vision. The Londolozi story and model is explored in greater detail in our Vision section.

Accommodations

The four exclusive camps of Bateleur, Tree and Bush (Pioneer and Founders) are secluded in dense riverine forest on the banks of the Sand River, in the northern section of the private reserve. In the early dawn, you will hear the haunting calls of fish eagles, and the booming snorts of hippo. Each camp is totally private and self-contained.

Londolozi Tree Camp is so named because the dense riverine forest environment and most notably the ancient Ebony Tree shading the camp. Tree Camp has six lavish suites elevated 70 feet above the Sand River.

Activities

Activities at Londolozi centre around game viewing drives in open vehicles that traverse an area of some 14 000 hectares (34 580 acres) in search of wildlife, including nocturnal species viewed after sunset. You may request the sole use of a Land Rover for game viewing, (subject to availability.)

Rangers will lead you on bush walks - the quintessential wilderness experience.

#
Wildlife

Londolozi is a prime wildlife haven and has been rated the best game experience in Southern Africa. The characteristic species of the Sabi Sand are impala, greater kudu, giraffe, buffalo, lion and leopard. Lions are the only truly social members of the cat family, and sightings of lion prides are the order of the day at Londolozi.

Open water channels and pools are favoured by hippo. Reedbeds are favoured by buffalo and elephant. Riverine forest along the river is green all year round, and is the haunt of leopard, greater bush baby (galago) and bushbuck.

Cuisine

A success story of repute is Londolozi's culinary genius, head chef Dumi Ndlovu, who comes from the local community. Dumi started off as a waiter and is now Londolozi's innovative and admired head chef.

Guests returning from an early morning game drive find Dumi's breakfasts irresistible. He serves mouth-watering dishes accompanied by a variety of homemade treats, ranging from muesli to breads and preserves. He delights in whipping together new mouth-watering combinations, like creamy scrambled eggs served with breadsticks wrapped in smoked salmon or French toast with decadent citrus syrup. At lunch and dinner, guests are delighted by fresh mielie (corn) soup and mielie (corn) bread; Mediterranean salads with an African flavour; Moçambique paella with crisp prawns; local venison sausage with sautéed oyster mushrooms served with baked potato stuffed with mushrooms, bacon and a cheese sauce. A hearty feast to compliment a Londolozi safari!
