Introduction to Uganda

Introduction to Uganda

"Uganda is truly the pearl of Africa". - Sir Winston Churchill

You will be very pleasantly surprised by Uganda - it is a beautiful country, the breadbasket of Africa and the second strongest economy in the African continent. As a result, the infrastructure is good, with a modern and efficient airport at Entebbe, good roads and a vast agricultural industry - sugar cane, tea, coffee and cotton. And, most importantly, the people are delightful, friendly and welcoming.

If that were not enough, Uganda is also home to more than half of the few remaining Mountain Gorilla. And, if your goal is to see this most magnificent, and largest, of our cousins then the very best place to so is the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi in southwest Uganda. Our gorilla tracking itinerary takes you to Bwindi and includes two full days of gorilla tracking. This is, we believe, the most exciting safari experience you will ever have.

But the Mountain Gorilla is not the only Great Ape you will find in Uganda. This is also home to the chimpanzee, the closest primate to ourselves, and with whom we share 98 ½ percent of our DNA!

In a unique partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute we have added the chimpanzee sanctuary on the beautiful island of Ngamba to our itineraries. We donate, on your behalf, 15% of the cost of this itinerary directly to the Jane Goodall Institute. Not only will you have a magnificent vacation, but also the satisfaction of directly supporting one of the very finest conservation bodies in the world.

We anticipate that most visitors to Uganda come specifically to see the gorillas and, typically, will make this experience a part of a longer safari that also includes either Kenya or Tanzania. Our suggested itineraries are short, purposefully designed to allow you to see the gorillas or to combine gorillas and chimpanzees, as an addition to your East African photo safari.

Of course, Uganda has much more to offer than gorillas and chimpanzees, and if you would prefer a longer itinerary that takes in some of the other highlights, and there are many, then we will be happy to design an itinerary for you.

Our suggested itineraries in Uganda:

Gorilla Gorilla Berengei

Chimpanzee and Gorilla - the Ultimate primate tour in support of the Jane Goodall Institute.
